English Language Proficiency Requirement (ELPR) - No exceptions
The Nova Scotia Real Estate Commission requires any student registering for the Salesperson Licensing Course to meet the English Language Proficiency Requirement (ELPR).
Contracts and standard forms in Nova Scotia are in English.
Real estate practitioners require a broad spectrum of language proficiency skills; a demonstrated level of communication skills in English, both verbal and written, is critical.
You must meet ELPR
before you can register for the salesperson licensing course (
no exceptions). You will be required to upload your score report PDF during the course registration process.
The ELPR is satisfied by
achieving a level 7 or higher on each of the four components (reading, writing, speaking and listening) of the
Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program - General (CELPIP-G) test on the same test score report.
Candidates are responsible for registering for the CELPIP-G test and paying the applicable test fee.
You can view or get notified about the
CELPIP-G Test Schedule in your area.
Please ensure you register for the three-hour test – NOT the one-hour test.
Please note that if you have taken the CELPIP-G test in the past, a score report can only be used for
two (2) years from the date of the test to meet the ELPR.
